Review: Craving Constellations (The Aces #1) by Nicole Jacquelyn

"How is it, that someone can make decision after decision attempting to get away from their past and somehow end up right back where they started?"

When Brenna decided to leave the only life she'd ever known, she never thought she'd ever be back. Now, five years later she's running from her clean cut husband straight back to the motorcycle club that raised her... and the man she left behind. She left with a secret, and as soon as she returns the truth will break her carefully constructed life wide open.

I'd like to say this book was a breath of fresh air, but for me it was just an alright read. I've been having some issues connecting with characters in motorcycle themed books here lately, and I think that it's because I was so disappointed with Unbeautifully by Madeline Sheehan. I have to constantly switch my reading genres because if I stay in one world too long, I get burnt out and bitchmoanwhine about how unoriginal story lines are and how it was a waste of my time. That isn't fair to the writer nor the people who may stumble across my reviews, so this is what I have to say about Craving Constellations.

First, I really liked that our heroine in this book, Brenna, is a fiery red head with Irish roots.
That's an automatic win for me because I'm deathly envious of the Ginger population. Also the plot line isn't really that bad in this book! Brenna has a one night stand with the delectable Dragon, and surprise surprise she receives a parting gift when she hightails it out of her childhood stomping grounds, The Aces Compound, and back into the arms of her on again off again collegiate boyfriend.

Five years later, we find out that Brenna married her boyfriend, even though she was preggers with another mans baby, and has found herself in an extremely abusive marriage. I felt anxious reading about Brenna trying to escape the clutches of the man who was supposed to love her, but instead used her as his personal punching bag. I was terrified that her escape plans wouldn't work out, but thankfully they did.

Not long after Brenna arrives back to the Aces Compound, Dragon finds out about his "love child" and flips shit. This new development also causes some upset among the clubs ranks, because you're not supposed to sleep with the VP's daughter, much less knock her up! Which resorts in a brutal beat down for Dragon, because let's face it...motorcycle gangs do not play around!
Not gonna line, I swooned a bit when I found out that Dragon had constellations tattooed on his chest because his one night stand with Brenna made a major impression on him. As unrealistic as that might be, it was still sweet as hell and gave a little bit of dimension to the rough bad boy who survived a hard life.
Craving Constellations kept me on my toes throughout most of the book, but there were some hiccups and plot twist that seemingly came out of no where that resulted in my three star rating for the book as a whole.
Would I recommend it? Sure, why not. Will I continue on with the series? Probably not. Mostly because I liked how this book ended and I never really felt attached to any of the other supporting characters.
